I have been holding on to this wedding for almost a year, not posting for the same reason you buy an incredible dress that you love so much you never wear. Not because it doesn’t work but because it’s your favorite and you just don’t know when would be the absolute right time to break it out so you never do. As you scroll through these pictures you will see that Alli and Chase’s wedding reception ended anything but predictably when Chase fell so ill from dehydration from nerves, excitement and not eating all day (or what I prefer to call Love Sick) that he had to be taken by ambulance to the ER. When Chase fell ill, as the person trusted to document their wedding I didn’t want to impose in the scary situation this loving family suddenly found themselves in but I knew as an image maker my job was to document life – the planned and pretty, and the unplanned and messy so I stayed at a distance and documented. And I took some of the most romantic images I have ever taken. I documented that moment Alli stopped being a bride and became a wife, and the moment two families truly became one. This is not at all how anyone wants their wedding day to end, but I was so touched by the beauty and perfection of what they shared. Chase doing all he could to hold it together for Alli for as long as he could when he was so ill, Alli walking away from the wedding they had spent a year planning for without a second glance when she realized how sick he was, his parents stepping aside while Alli travelled in the back of the ambulance with Chase honoring her place as his wife in that momentand Alli’s parents loving and worrying for Chase like he was their own child. Weddings are a wonderful celebration and I’ve seen a lot of beautiful ones but marriage is really all about what you see in this wedding. This is the stuff that real life and real love is made of.
And… thankfully… yes, Chase made a full recovery after spending their first night together as husband and wife cuddled up in a too small bed in the ER at Northside Hospital and they enjoyed a wonderful honeymoon in Spain.
